Overview

This itinerary starts with two nights in Panama City. You will have a chance to learn about the history of the canal, walk around the old town (Casco Viejo) or visit one of the national parks to spot some wildlife and birds.

Next, you will fly to David in the north of Panama, the gateway to the cloud forests of Boquete. This area is known for rich and diverse wildlife and for unique hikes in the jungle or in the grounds of Baru Volcano National Park. It is also a paradise for adventure seeking individuals, with hiking, climbing and white water rafting opportunities.

Your final destination is Bocas del Toro Province on the Caribbean Sea. The region has nine islands and thousands of islets, as well as crystal clear waters with a constant warm temperature. The coral and marine life is diverse, making it popular with divers and snorkellers. Wildlife spotting opportunities abound, there is a high density of sloths, dolphins are a common sight and magnificent frigate birds nest on islets.

Day to Day

Below is an example day by day itinerary

Day 1

Met on arrival and transferred to the American Trade Hotel in the picturesque old part of the city (Casco Viejo). This gorgeous boutique hotel is centrally located on Plaza Herrera, a lovely treelined plaza with brightly coloured tanagers and parakeets chirping from above. The hotel is walking distance to the bars and restaurants, some with rooftop terraces affording views across to the modern Panama City skyline. Overnight American Trade Hotel.

Day 2

Day at leisure. You could take a guided walk and discover the old town, taste local food in the markets, visit the Panama Canal or head to one of the National Parks on the outskirts of the city. Overnight American Trade Hotel (B).

Day 3

Today you will transfer to the airport and take a flight to the city of David in the north of Panama. You will then head to Boquete, a friendly and charming mountain town located with cooler temperatures and close to the adventure activities of the area and the Baru Volcano National Park. You will be staying in Finca Lerida, a characterful coffee plantation with just 21 converted rooms and suites. Overnight Finca Lerida (B).

Day 4

Day at leisure. Optional excursions could include visiting local communities, a tour of the coffee plantations and learning about the award winning Geisha coffee that is grown in the area. Take a hike on the pipeline or waterfall trails and see monkeys, sloths and plentiful birdlife. If you like adventure there are opportunities to zipline or do white water rafting. Day 6

Transfer in an air-conditioned vehicle to Almirante on the Caribbean side of the country, from there you will take a boat to Bocas del Toro and to Isla Colon where your hotel will be Island Plantation Hotel on a quieter side of the island. The hotel is located on a 4km stretch of sandy beach on Bluff Beach (B).

Day 7

Day at leisure to relax and enjoy the surroundings, walk the beach or hire an ATV to explore some of the swimming beaches around the island, starfish beach is popular to discover. *Optional excursions could include a boat trip to the Bastimentos Marine Reserver where you can snorkel and see corals and tropical fish, and then observe wildlife such as sloths in the mangroves, dolphins in the sea and frigate birds nesting on the islets. Other excursions could include visiting Bastimentos island a Ngube village where you can do a chocolate tour or learn about their island way of life (B).
