Overview

This holiday extends our bestselling Rainforest and Beach itinerary by having extra nights at the end at Blue Waters Inn to the north of the island.

Start your holiday at Castara Retreats, a stunning eco-resort embedded in the hillside above the fishing village of Castara. Castara Retreats provides an incredible natural setting, surrounded by trees and with views across the bay and the blues of the Caribbean Sea. Relax in your open air lounge area, on one of the terraces or take a short walk downhill to the beach where you can snorkel in the bay or watch the fishermen bring their nets in at the end of the day.

Transfer inland to Cuffie River Nature Retreat for 4 nights, here you can enjoy the onsite trails or observe the brightly coloured hummingbirds. During your stay you have a guided nature walk around the grounds with a naturalist guide and have a guided tour of the Tobago Main Ridge Forest Reserve.

Ending your stay at Blue Water's Inn near Speyside. This full service resort is on the beach and overlooks Little Tobago island, a protected Bird Sanctuary. Your stay includes a guided tour to the island where you will walk to the lookout and may see birds such as Magnificent Frigate Birds, Red Billed Tropicbirds and rare Red Footed Boobies. After visiting the island you will take the boat to the nearby reef and snorkel at your own leisure to see a variety of fish and possible reef sharks and stingrays.

Day to Day

Below is an example day by day itinerary

Day 1

Met on arrival and transferred to Castara Retreats, Settle into your room and enjoy the stunning views across the bay. *Note. Castara Retreats is on a hillside and there can be many steps to your room, enquire for best options. The apartments are self catering but there is an onsite restaurant called that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are dining options in the village of Castara too. Overnight Castara Retreats.

Day 2

Day at leisure. Hire sunloungers to relax on the beach at Castara, snorkel around the bay or walk to the nearby waterfall. Boat trips to snorkel or fish can be organised through the hotel. Or visit neighbouring beach Englishman's Bay which is peaceful and secluded with a few stalls and a local restaurant. Hiring a car can be a good option to visit some of the waterfalls of the island or to visit the beach at Pigeon Point. Overnight Castara Retreats.

Day 3

Day 7

Transfer by vehicle to Cuffie River Nature Retreat, relax at the hotel and enjoy the pool or watch the array of brightly coloured hummingbirds on the feeders or in the gardens. In the evening you will dine in the open air restaurant this evening (D)

Day 8

Today you will take a guided nature walk with the onsite naturalist guide who will share with you his vast knowledge of the local flora and fauna. You may see the endemic White-tailed Sabrewing hummingbird, Blue-backed Manakin, Ruby-topaz Hummingbird, Collared Trogon, Trinidad Motmot and the Rufous Tailed Jacamar (BD)

Day 9

Today you will visit the Main Ridge Rainforest Reserve with your naturalist guide. You may take the Gilpin Trace trail or one of the other trails. Chance to spot the blue backed manakin as well as many other bird species. Overnight Cuffie River Nature Retreat (BD).

Day 10

Today you will transfer to Blue Waters Inn near Speyside, situated on a stunning beach, this full service hotel as an infinity pool and restaurant onsite. Overnight Blue Waters Inn (B).

Day 11

Today you will take a trip to Little Tobago, an island which is a protected bird sanctuary. You will take a walk with your naturalist guide to a lookout at the top of the island and your guide will help you spot birds such as the majestic Red Billed Tropicbird, rare Red Footed Boobies and Magnificent Frigatebirds. After returning from the look out you will hop back on the boat and visit a nearby reef for some snorkelling. Overnight Blue Waters Inn (BL).
