Nestled along the Pacuare River, Pacuare Lodge has a stunning, remote location where you raft in and out down through the spectacular gorges of the Pacuare river. The beauty and quality of the lodge can seem at odds with the the lodge being off grid and operating clean energy from hydro and solar power from such an incredibly remote location. The lodge are true champions of community employment, indigenous empowerment, and environmental education. It has used and continues to use sustainable construction methods, and supports wildlife research, including a long-term jaguar monitoring project.

Continuing to Amor Arenal hotel, which is perched near Arenal Volcano and designed for a private and luxury experience within this beautiful rainforest setting. Amor Arenal preserves 95% of its gorgeous rainforest property. The lodge emphasises water and energy conservation, has no requirement for single-use plastics, and maintains sustainable building practices. You will enjoy farm to table dining sourced from local organic farms and nature focused experiences like guided birdwatching walks to truly enjoy their protected property whilst enjoying unrivalled views of the volcano whilst relaxing on your private terrace.

Next stop is Monteverde, and a stay at the Cloud Forest Lodge which sits within the Bellbird Biological Corridor, with chances to see the Three Wattled Bellbird and the Resplendent Quetzal. As well as having a stunning location within the forest, the lodge prioritises renewable energy, sustainable water use, and waste reduction. A private nature reserve onsite promotes biodiversity, and composting and recycling programs are integrated into daily operations.

Finishing at the wild and incredibly beautiful Lapa Rios hotel on the remote and highly biodiverse Osa Peninsula. This lodge has a number of exquisite lodges along a ridge where primary rainforest meets the ocean. Lapa Rios supports 100% local staffing and educational outreach. Day to Day

Below is an example day by day itinerary

Day 1

Met on arrival in San Jose and transferred to your hotel. Overnight Grano de Oro.

Day 2

Transferred to a meeting point on the Pacuare River, where you will raft along the rapids of the breathtaking Pacuare River to your lodge. The lodge is located on an 840-acres private reserve in a remote location in the heart of the Talamanca Mountains. Overnight Pacuare Lodge (BLD).

Day 3

The lodge has guides onsite and you can choose 2 daily activities: Early Morning Birdwatching, Pacuare Canopy Adventure, Canyoning at El Tesorito Creek, Cabecar Indigenous Hike, Rural Experience at Bajos del Tigre, Ancient Trail, Challenge Waterfalls Hike, Sustainable Tour. Day 4

Leave the lodge as you arrived by white water rafting down the Pacuare River, an adrenaline packed morning will see you rafting along Class III and IV rapids and past the famous Pacuare Gorge. Then transferred in an air-conditioned vehicle to Arenal region. Amor Arenal is located within 106 acres of lush rainforest and close to the volcano. Overnight Amor Arenal (B).

Day 5

Experience a guided hanging bridges tour, a 3km trail takes you through the rainforest with glimpses of the Arenal volcano, your guide will point out wildlife such as snakes, monkeys, birds, sloths and an array of other species, plus the fascinating rainforest plants and trees. In the afternoon you will take a guided vehicle sloth spotting tour. This is a great chance to see this iconic and fascinating animal, which although slow moving is often very well camouflaged in the canopy, a guide is essential to spot. In the evening, you will take part in a small family project for reforestation situated about 10 minutes from La Fortuna. Once you arrive, you will take the trail into a small patch of rainforest which is in the process of regeneration. You may see nocturnal birds, mammals, insects, amphibians, bats and more. You may also see the poison dart frog, red-eyed tree frog, and glass frog. After the tour, you will enjoy a Costa Rican family style dinner. Overnight Amor Arenal (BD).

Day 6

Day 7

Today you will be transferred in a shared boat through Lake Arenal and then via a shuttle to the cloud forest of Monteverde. The lodge is located within 56 acres of pristine cloud forest and features its own private reserve with over 4 km of trails. Overnight Cloud Forest Lodge. (B).

Day 8

Tour of the less visited Curi Cancha Reserve, a birdwatcher's paradise. You may see the Resplendent Quetzal, Three Wattled Bellbird, Blue Crowned Motmot and Orange bellied Trogon as well as many other species. Possible sightings of mammals include armadillo, coati, agouti, kinkajou, ocelot, sloths, howler monkeys, white faced capuchin and spider monkey. Overnight Cloud Forest Lodge (B).

Day 9

Transferred today to San Jose Airport where you will take a small propeller flight to Puerto Jimenez in the Osa Peninsula. You will then transfer to the stunning Lapa Rios hotel, which is set in a 1,000 acre private nature reserve of primary rainforest. Overnight Lapa Rios (BLD).

Day 10

Lapa Rios has a variety of different guided hikes and tours at different times during the day that guests can sign up to. These hikes can include rainforest and waterfall hikes of various distances, early morning bird tours, night walks and beach tours. All tours will have the chance to see wildlife such as howler, white faced, squirrel and spider monkeys, yellow throated toucans and scarlet macaws as well as many other species. Day 11

Day 13

Today you will transfer back to Puerto Jimenez where you will take a propeller flight to San Jose and will transfer to the international terminal in time for your flight back to the UK.
