Colombia - Small Group Wildlife Tour

3 nts Bogota, 3 nts Los Llanos, 1nt Yopal

Overview

Departing Monday 10th March 2026 - Small Group Tour - max 10 people - 7 nights. Join us for our this incredible small group wildlife and birds tour in Colombia, accompanied by expert naturalist guide. You will have the chance to observe numerous wildlife and bird species in a very special ecosystem.

Starting the trip in Bogota you will have the chance to explore the capital city and visit the hummingbird gardens at Montserrate and the Guasca region where we will explore the unique Paramo landscape and look for Andean bears and Green-bearded helmetcrest hummingbird. The Paramo landscape is a unique ecosystem that is found at high elevation in the Andes (approx. between 3,000 and 4,500 metres) in the Andes, and is above the forest line but below the snow line. The vegetation is mainly giant rosette plants, grasses and mosses that act as natural sponges storing water and releasing into the rivers supplying Bogota.

We will then fly to Yopal and head deep into the Los Llanos region to stay at a remote cattle ranch called Hato La Aurora. The ranch helps preserve the populations of jaguar in the region, instead of shooting jaguars that prey on the cattle, they let the jaguars co-exist alongside their cattle, in the hope their eco-tourism program will offset any cattle lost to the jaguar. Sightings of the jaguar are frequent, not be guaranteed but there is a wealth of other wildlife and bird species that can easily be spotted including the Anaconda, Giant Anteaters, Capybaras, Caiman and Crocodiles. Numerous bird species can be observed on the plains and in lakes including scarlet ibis, jabiru, hoatzin, scarlet macaw, horned screamers, Burrowing Owls, Orinoco Geese and many more. On arrival we will take a slow motorized canoe ride along the Ariporo River to spot wildlife before sunset. The next few days we rise early to cross into the reserve in our safari style vehicle and return to the lodge at sunset. On our final morning we will take a walk through the forest searching for wildlife such as Red Howler Monkeys, Wire Tailed Manakins and potoos. Food is served family style at long tables in an open air dining room with open kitchen and is plentiful hearty home cooked meals, usually three courses including a soup, main of beef, lentils and vegetables, and dessert.

*Tailor-made extensions could include visiting the Coffee Region and Medellin 'The City of Eternal Spring' or the Caribbean coast to include the stunning city of Cartagena or the wild tropical landscapes of Tayrona Park. Enquire for tailored quote.
