This itinerary is a perfect balance of cultural and natural destinations in Nicaragua. You will start your journey by exploring the beautiful colonial towns of Leon and Granada. You will learn about the history, culture and local traditions, as well as visiting some active volcanoes which Nicaragua is renowned for.
You will then travel to Ometepe Island in Lake Nicaragua, also knows as Cociboca. Lake Nicaragua is the largest lake in Nicaragua and the 19th largest inn the world. Ometepe Island, which is made of the two imposing volcanoes Concepción and Madeira, has been inhabited for thousands of years due to its fertile volcanic soil. It is incredibly popular for its abundant wildlife, beautiful scenery, numerous springs and waterfalls and for relaxing on its sandy beach.
Your final destination is the charming and laid-back town of San Juan del Sur on the Pacific Coast. Relax on the beach or learn to surf on beautiful and wild beaches.

Below is an example day by day itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in Managua Airport and transfer in a private vehicle to the town ofLeon. Overnight El Convento Hotel.
Day 2
This morning you will drive approximately an hour to the Cerro Negro Volcano. Although still active, the volcano hasn't erupted since 1999! After a hike to the top which takes approx. an hour you will then board down its black slope on a surf board. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant before you head back to Leon for a guided city walking tour where you will explore the historic centre and learn about the city's past and its colonial architecture. Day 3
This morning, you will visit the first capital of Nicaragua, Leon Viejo. Founded in 1524 by Spanish conquistadores, the ruins of the town were discovered in 1967 and declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2000. In the afternoon you could visit Leon's colorful markets, its museum or simply relax in one of the many rooftop bars (optional). Overnight El Convento (B).
Day 4
Today you will transfer south to the colonial town of Granada near Lake Nicaragua.
You will enjoy a guided tour of the historic centre and learn about the town's rich history. You will then visit a local cigar factory, you will climb the Bell Tower of the La Iglesia de la Merced where you can enjoy spectacular views over the town, Lake Nicaragua and Mombacho Volcano. Day 5
In the morning, you will visit a rural community located at the feet of Mombacho Volcano, where you will learn about farming, chocolate making, and the essence of Nicaraguan rural living.
In the afternoon, you will be driven to the Masaya Volcano National Park also known as 'Mouth of Hell'. This is a unique experience allowing you to see inside the crater of an active volcano and its lava lake at dusk and then as the sun sets when the lava lake glows red. Overnight El Convento (BL)
Day 6
Today you will visit Las Isletas from Granada which are small islands dotted in Lake Nicaragua and have a guided kayaking tour in the calm waters where you can spot various species of birds including kingfishers, white and grey herons and the white throated magpie. Afternoon at leisure to explore on your own.

Day 7
Today you will transfer to the town of San Jorge on the shores of Lake Nicaragua (approx 1 hour and 15 mins), before embarking on a ferry to Ometepe Island (approx 1 hour). Transfer by vehicle to your hotel (approx. 40 mins). Afternoon at leisure to explore. Overnight Finca de la Isla (B)
Day 8
Today you will explore the majestic island, dominated by the Conception and Madeira volcanoes. You will visit a working coffee farm, Charco Verde Reserve, then visit Chico Largo Lagoon band a local museum featuring artifacts from the island's Pre-columbian inhabitants. End the day with a refreshing swim in the crystal clear water of Ojo de Agua. Overnight Finca de la Isla (BL).

Day 10
Transfer to the fishing village of San Juan del Sur, which has become one of the most popular beach destinations on Nicaragua's Pacific Coast. This town has maintained much of its charm and laid-back atmosphere. Overnight Hotel Victoriano (B)
